Travel Recovery IV Therapy, at a glance

Gangnam Celliting Clinic · 121 Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul · Gangnam Station Exit 12 (4-min walk)

A travel recovery IV is a fluid and vitamin drip given near the end of your stay, usually one or two days before your flight home, to ease fatigue from a packed trip and help you start a long flight well hydrated. It does not prevent jet lag at home. At Gangnam Celliting Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, the doctor times it around your final treatments and check-ups.

  • Best timing 1–2 days before flying home
  • Session time About 20–40 minutes
  • Main aim Board rested and well hydrated
  • Also on that visit Final aftercare and follow-up plan
End of trip

Why do so many visitors feel worn out by the end of a Seoul trip?

End-of-trip fatigue builds up quietly: early starts, long walking days, late nights, restaurant food and sometimes several treatments in a week. By the last 48 hours many people are short on sleep and fluids, just before a long, dry flight.

Packed schedule

Sightseeing, shopping and appointments leave little time to sit down, eat properly or drink enough.

Treatment days

Procedures, fasting for sedation and post-treatment care add physical demands to an already busy week.

The flight ahead

Ten hours or more in dry cabin air with limited movement adds dehydration and stiffness on top.

Arrival vs departure

How is a departure drip different from a jet lag drip?

A departure drip prepares you for the flight home, while a jet lag IV helps you recover in the first days after arriving.

Start of trip (jet lag) End of trip (travel recovery)
When Day 1–2 after landing 1–2 days before departure
Main problem Body clock out of step, flight dehydration Accumulated fatigue, upcoming flight
Paired with Morning daylight, local bedtime Rest, packing early, final check-up

Timing

When should the drip fit around your last treatments?

The drip usually comes after your final procedure and before the flight, often on the same day as your last check-up. The doctor decides the exact order based on what you had done.

  1. Last procedure Ideally finished a few days before departure, as advised by the doctor for that specific treatment.
  2. Final review The doctor checks the treated areas and gives you written aftercare in your language.
  3. Travel recovery drip Given the same day or the next, if you feel depleted and it suits your health.
  4. Flight day Light meal, water on board, regular walks in the aisle and calf exercises in your seat.
Do not book a new procedure on the day you fly; leave time for the doctor to check you before departure.

How to stay hydrated on a long flight home

The best way to stay hydrated on a long flight is steady, small drinks of water throughout, rather than relying on a drip the day before.

  • Bring an empty bottle through security and refill it after.
  • Limit alcohol and strong coffee, which can add to dehydration.
  • Stand up and walk when the seatbelt sign is off, and flex your ankles often.
  • If you have had recent procedures, follow any specific advice on compression stockings or medicines given by the doctor.

Once home, your free 3-month follow-up and the 24-hour contact line remain available for questions about your treatments, for example after Ultherapy.

Is it right for you?

Should you add a drip before flying home?

Often a good fit

  • You feel run-down after a busy week in Seoul
  • You had several treatments and have eaten or slept poorly
  • You face a long-haul flight of many hours
  • You want your last day to feel calmer and more organised

Talk to your doctor first

  • A history of blood clots or leg swelling when flying
  • Heart or kidney conditions affecting fluid intake
  • Any new symptom after a procedure
  • Medicines or supplements started during the trip

Suitability is a medical decision made by your doctor after an in-person consultation and review of your health history.

For international patients

Planning the end of your stay in Korea

Many visitors leave their last day free and book the departure drip together with the final check-up, which means only one trip to the clinic near Gangnam Station Exit 12. Remember Incheon Airport transfers can take an hour or more, so do not schedule anything close to your departure time. The clinic is open until 16:00 on Saturdays and closed on Sundays and public holidays, which matters if you fly out on a weekend.

FAQ

Travel Recovery IV Therapy: your questions, answered

Reviewed by Dr. Ho-chan Kim, MD, PhD · Updated October 2026

How many days before my flight should I have the drip?

Usually one to two days before, or on your final check-up day. That gives you time to rest afterwards and avoids rushing to the airport straight from the clinic. The doctor may suggest a different timing depending on the treatments you had.

Will a drip before flying stop jet lag when I get home?

No. Your body clock will still need to adjust after you land, and daylight and sleep timing at home do that job. Starting the flight rested and hydrated may simply make the journey and the first days back feel less draining.

Can I have a drip on the same day as my flight?

It is possible but not ideal. You may need the toilet more often for a few hours, and a bruise or sore arm is easier to manage when you are not carrying luggage. Most visitors find the day before more comfortable.

Does a drip lower my risk of blood clots on the flight?

A drip is not a clot-prevention treatment. Staying hydrated, walking in the aisle and moving your ankles are sensible general measures. If you have had clots before or recent surgery, ask the doctor specifically about your risk and precautions before flying.

Who do I contact if I feel unwell after getting home?

International patients have a 24-hour contact line and a free 3-month follow-up after returning home. For anything urgent, such as chest pain, breathlessness or a swollen, painful leg, go to your local emergency service first.
