Stem Cell-Based Skin Treatments, at a glance

Gangnam Celliting Clinic · 121 Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul · Gangnam Station Exit 12 (4-min walk)

Choose by goal: stem cell-based treatment uses a concentrate from your own blood for gradual, deeper skin-quality support; PRP uses your own platelets for growth factors; exosomes deliver cell-free signals without a blood draw; skin boosters mainly add hydration. At Gangnam Celliting Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, a doctor confirms which one, or which pair, fits your skin.

Side by side

Stem cell-based vs exosome vs PRP vs skin boosters: how do they compare?

They differ in what material is used, where it comes from and what it mainly aims to do. These are different treatment concepts, so the names are not interchangeable.

Stem cell-based Exosome PRP Skin booster
Material Cell concentrate Cell-free vesicles Platelet-rich plasma Injectable hydrating gel
Source Your own blood Prepared product Your own blood Prepared product
Blood draw Yes No Yes No
Main aim Deeper skin quality Calming, renewal signals Growth factor support Hydration, glow
Change shows Gradually Gradually Gradually Often sooner

PRP and stem cell-based treatments both start with your blood, but the stem cell process (Miracell or NovaStem at this clinic) concentrates cells as well as platelets. Exosomes are signalling particles released by cells, used without living cells. See exosome facial treatments for more on that option.

Decision cards

Which one should you choose for your skin goal?

Choose stem cell-based if…

You want a regenerative option made from your own blood-derived cells and are patient with slow, subtle change in texture and firmness.

Choose exosome if…

You prefer no blood draw, want support after laser or sensitivity, or have very limited time in Seoul.

Choose PRP if…

You want an autologous option with a long medical track record and a simpler preparation.

Choose a skin booster if…

Your main issue is dryness, dehydration lines or lack of glow, and you want visible hydration sooner.

If two options seem equally right, the doctor's examination of your skin, not the treatment name, should decide.
Combining

Can two of these treatments be combined, and how?

Yes, two options can sometimes be combined when they target different needs, but only if the doctor agrees it is safe and useful for you. More is not always better, and some pairs add little.

  • Stem cell-based + skin booster: deeper renewal plus surface hydration, often spaced or layered as the doctor advises.
  • Exosome after a laser or energy device: commonly used to support recovery of the skin barrier.
  • Stem cell-based + a lifting device: skin quality from one, firmness and contour from the other.
  • PRP and stem cell-based together: usually unnecessary, as both rely on your blood.

Lifting devices are explained on the skin lifting page.

Budget planning

What drives the cost of regenerative skin treatments?

Cost depends mainly on the material, how it is prepared and how many sessions you need. The clinic gives a personal quote after consultation rather than fixed prices online.

Cost driver Why it matters
Material type Cell processing and ready-made products are priced differently
Preparation Sterile-room processing adds time and resources
Area treated Face only vs face and neck
Number of sessions Single visit vs a short course
Combination Pairing two options adds to the plan
Comfort option Sedation or other methods if chosen
Is it right for you?

FAQ

Stem Cell-Based Skin Treatments: your questions, answered

Reviewed by Dr. Ho-chan Kim, MD, PhD · Updated October 2026

Is PRP the same as a stem cell treatment?

No. Both use your own blood, but PRP concentrates platelets and their growth factors, while the stem cell-based process also concentrates stem and progenitor cells. The doctor can explain which is more suitable for your skin and goals.

Are exosomes stem cells?

No. Exosomes are tiny particles that cells release to send signals. They contain no living cells. They are sometimes described as cell-free regenerative treatments and are different from a concentrate made from your own blood.

Which option gives the fastest visible change?

Skin boosters often show hydration and glow sooner, because they add moisture directly. Regenerative options such as stem cell-based treatment, PRP and exosomes usually work more gradually. Results vary, and faster is not always better for your long-term goals.

Can I switch to a different option on a later visit?

Yes. Many patients start with one option and change or add another later, based on how their skin responded. The free 3-month follow-up helps the doctor recommend the next step.

Why doesn't the clinic list prices online?

Because the final plan depends on the option, area, sessions and comfort method chosen after examination. A fixed online price could be misleading. You receive a personal quote after consultation, before any treatment begins.
