Korean Anti-Aging Treatments, at a glance

Gangnam Celliting Clinic · 121 Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul · Gangnam Station Exit 12 (4-min walk)

Korean anti-aging treatments are mostly non-surgical procedures that fall into four groups: energy-based lifting (HIFU and RF), injectables that improve skin quality or stimulate collagen, regenerative options such as exosomes and stem cells, and wellness IV drips. Korean clinics often combine several of these in one visit with short downtime, so knowing the terms helps you compare menus.

Energy-based lifting

What do HIFU, RF and lifting mean on a Korean menu?

These three terms describe ways of heating tissue under the skin so it tightens without incisions.

HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound)

HIFU focuses ultrasound energy at set depths, including the SMAS, the muscle-and-fascia layer that a surgical facelift also tightens. The heat creates tiny points of coagulation that may lead to firmer tissue over the following months. Ultherapy and Ultherapy PRIME are well-known examples that add real-time ultrasound imaging.

RF (radiofrequency)

RF devices heat the dermis more broadly, which can tighten existing collagen and encourage new collagen. Thermage FLX is a monopolar RF device, and XERF, also offered at Celliting, is a monopolar RF system that uses more than one frequency to reach different depths. RF is often discussed for crepey texture and mild laxity.

Lifting

In Korea, lifting is a broad marketing word. It may mean a device, threads or injections, so always ask which method, which device and how much energy is included.

Injectables and regenerative care

Skin boosters, collagen stimulators, exosomes and stem cells: how do they differ?

These four terms are easy to confuse because all of them relate to the skin's own repair process. The table compares them side by side.

Term What it is Main goal Pace of change
Skin booster Fine injections into the dermis Hydration, texture, glow Gradual, over weeks
Collagen stimulator Injectable such as Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) Firmness and soft volume Builds over months
Exosome Tiny cell-derived vesicles applied to skin Recovery and skin quality Gradual, often after microneedling
Stem cell (autologous) Cells from your own blood, minimally manipulated Support for tissue regeneration Gradual, schedule set by doctor

Research on exosomes and stem cells for skin is still developing, so a careful clinic explains both the rationale and the limits. At Gangnam Celliting Clinic the stem cell programs are autologous and blood-derived: no donor material and no fat extraction.

Wellness and buzzwords

What do IV drip and glass skin mean?

IV drip

An IV drip delivers fluid with nutrients such as vitamins, glutathione or NAD+ into a vein over a set time. In Korea drips are popular for fatigue and travel recovery; they support wellbeing but do not replace a medical diagnosis.

Glass skin

Glass skin is a K-beauty phrase for very clear, smooth, light-reflecting skin. It describes a look, not a treatment, and clinics may combine skin boosters and gentle skin care to move skin in that direction.

Reading the menu

How should you read a Korean clinic menu?

Read a Korean clinic menu by separating the device, the dose and the person performing it. Menus often list bundles with device names, shot counts and add-ons, which are hard to compare from abroad.

  1. Separate the device from the dose Note the device name and the amount of energy or number of shots, since two packages with the same name can differ.
  2. Check who performs it Ask whether the doctor you meet carries out the procedure or hands it to someone else.
  3. Ask about genuine consumables For Thermage you can verify the tip on the official Korean Thermage website; Celliting uses a dedicated tip for each patient.
  4. Match the bundle to your concern A combination should make sense for your face, not only for the price list.

Korean clinics tend to combine several treatments in one visit and favour options with short downtime, which suits busy local patients and travellers alike. For the safety side, see our page on medical vs cosmetic care, or compare devices in the skin lifting overview and the exosome treatments section.

FAQ

Korean Anti-Aging Treatments: your questions, answered

Reviewed by Dr. Ho-chan Kim, MD, PhD · Updated October 2026

Is HIFU the same as Ultherapy?

Not exactly. HIFU is the general technology, focused ultrasound, while Ultherapy is a specific branded device that uses it with real-time imaging. Many HIFU devices are sold in Korea, and they differ in depth, energy and imaging, so it helps to ask which device a clinic actually uses.

What is the difference between a skin booster and a filler?

A skin booster is injected in tiny amounts to improve skin quality, such as hydration and texture, whereas a filler is placed to add volume or reshape an area. Boosters usually aim for a healthier-looking surface rather than a visible change in facial shape.

Are exosome and stem cell treatments the same thing?

No. Exosomes are tiny vesicles released by cells and are applied to support skin recovery, while autologous stem cell programs use cells taken from your own blood. Both belong to regenerative care, but their source, process and treatment schedule are different.

Why do Korean clinics combine so many treatments?

Combining lets each treatment work on a different layer, for example a lifting device for deeper tissue and a booster for the surface. Many Korean patients also prefer short downtime, so several gentler steps often replace one intensive procedure. A combination should still be tailored to you.

What do shots mean on a Korean lifting menu?

Shots, sometimes called lines, are the number of energy pulses a device delivers. More shots do not automatically mean a better result; the right number depends on the area, skin thickness and the doctor's plan. Ask exactly what is included before comparing packages.
