Should you choose a device-based lift or a surgical facelift? This page compares both honestly, covering recovery, anaesthesia, how much change to expect and how long it lasts, so you can see which fits your face and timeline.

Non-surgical face lifting uses energy devices instead of incisions to tighten and lift skin, with little downtime but a subtler, gradual result. A surgical facelift repositions tissue and removes excess skin, giving a stronger, longer-lasting change with weeks of recovery. Non-surgical lifting generally suits mild to moderate sagging; heavy loose skin usually needs a surgical opinion.
The two approaches differ mainly in how much tissue they can move and how much recovery they demand. This comparison uses general information; your surgeon or doctor will give personal advice.
| Non-surgical lifting | Surgical facelift | |
|---|---|---|
| Method | Heat energy tightens tissue | Tissue lifted, excess skin removed |
| Anaesthesia | Topical cream or light analgesia | General anaesthesia or deep sedation |
| Downtime | Usually hours to a few days | Usually several weeks |
| Result | Subtle, builds over months | Stronger, visible after healing |
| Longevity | Shorter; maintenance sessions help | Longer, though aging continues |
| Cost drivers | Devices, areas, sessions | Surgical scope, anaesthesia, hospital stay |
The best candidates have early to moderate sagging and skin that still has some natural elasticity. Age matters less than tissue condition.
A softening jawline, early jowls, slightly heavier cheeks, or crepey skin that still springs back when gently pinched.
Moderate jowls with some loose skin. A device plan may help, but the doctor will be clear about the expected degree of change.
Heavy folds of loose skin along the jaw and neck, or very significant tissue descent. Devices are unlikely to give the change you want.
Many people also use device lifting after a surgical facelift, to maintain skin quality in later years. For age-specific ideas, see our guide to lifting treatments for your 40s.
One-Day Combined Face Lifting is the clinic’s main non-surgical alternative for patients who want a fuller lifting plan in a single visit. It combines Ultherapy PRIME, Thermage FLX, Olla Wave and Fortra in about 60 minutes to 2 hours, with minimal downtime.
Compare each device’s depth and feel on our lifting devices compared page.

A device lift can firm skin, soften early jowls and sharpen the jaw-to-neck line for suitable patients. It cannot remove excess skin, reposition heavy tissue the way surgery does, or stop aging.
Results vary with skin thickness, age, sun exposure and lifestyle. Regular maintenance sessions, sun protection and stable body weight can help results last longer.
Suitability is a medical decision made by your doctor after an in-person consultation and review of your health history.

In person, the doctor assesses skin elasticity and tissue descent and explains honestly if surgery would suit you better.
You agree on devices and choose comfort options, such as topical anaesthesia or AirNox analgesia.
Devices are applied in planned order over roughly one to two hours.
Most people return to normal activities soon after, with written aftercare in their language.
Named an Advanced Regenerative Medicine Institution by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in June 2026.
A Gangnam-gu Official Partner Clinic with English, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese support.
No serious complication since 2007. FDA/KFDA-cleared devices and verifiable, genuine consumables.
A surgical facelift usually means weeks in Seoul or flying home with visible swelling. A non-surgical lift often fits a stay of just a few days in Gangnam, Seoul, because downtime is minimal. Allow a day or two before your flight in case of mild swelling or tenderness. The clinic offers care in English, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese, a 24-hour contact line, and a free three-month follow-up after you return home.

For some people, yes. Regular device lifting may help maintain firmness and slow how quickly sagging becomes noticeable. It cannot stop aging, and some people still choose surgery later. The doctor can discuss how a maintenance plan might fit your goals.
Device results are usually shorter-lived than surgical ones, and many people repeat treatment periodically. A surgical facelift generally lasts longer, although the face keeps aging afterwards. Exact duration varies with your skin, lifestyle and the devices used.
Usually not in an obvious way. The change tends to be gradual and natural, so friends may say you look rested rather than ‘done’. Mild redness or swelling in the first day or two is the most visible sign.
Often, yes, once you have fully healed. Device lifting may help maintain skin firmness and texture in the years after surgery. Tell the doctor when and what surgery you had, so settings can be chosen safely.
General anaesthesia is not needed. Most people use topical numbing cream, and the clinic also offers AirNox nitrous-oxygen analgesia or sleep sedation when suitable. The doctor matches the comfort option to the devices planned and your sensitivity.
Send your photos through WhatsApp or the consultation form, and our doctors will tell you honestly whether a non-surgical lift can reach your goals.
