In brief

Exosome Microneedling, at a glance

Gangnam Celliting Clinic · 121 Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul · Gangnam Station Exit 12 (4-min walk)

Exosome microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin, then applies an exosome product so it can reach beyond the surface layer. The needling itself triggers the skin's healing response. Most people have redness for one to three days and settle within a week, though recovery depends on depth and individual skin.

  • Needle depth Adjusted by facial area
  • Common concerns Texture, pores, mild acne scarring
  • Visible redness Often 1–3 days

The science

Why do micro-channels improve exosome delivery?

Micro-channels improve delivery because the outer skin layer is a barrier that keeps most applied products on the surface. Microneedling creates thousands of tiny, temporary openings that close within hours, giving the exosome product a short window to reach deeper.

There is a second effect. The controlled micro-injury itself prompts the skin's natural wound-healing response, which can support collagen-related remodelling over the following weeks. Exosome microneedling therefore combines two concepts: needling for stimulation and exosomes as a regenerative support. For how exosomes compare with stem cells and PRP, see our exosome treatments overview.

Microneedling and exosome application are separate steps; ask how the product is incorporated into your procedure.

Depth

How is needle depth chosen for each area of the face?

The doctor sets depth by area, because skin thickness varies across the face. Thin skin needs a gentler setting; thicker or scarred areas may tolerate more.

Area Skin General approach
Around the eyes Thinnest Very shallow, gentle passes
Forehead Thin over bone Shallow setting
Cheeks Thicker Moderate depth for texture
Acne-scarred zones Uneven Adjusted to scar type
Nose and chin Oily, firm Moderate, with care around pores

Exact depths are decided at the time of treatment and adjusted to your skin's reaction during the session.

Recovery

Exosome microneedling recovery, day by day

Most recovery happens in the first three days. The table describes a typical course; yours may be shorter or longer depending on depth and skin type.

Day What skin usually looks like What to do
Day 0 Red, warm, like mild sunburn Only clinic-advised products
Day 1 Pink, tight, slightly swollen Gentle cleanse, moisturise
Day 2–3 Fading pink, dry or rough Hydrate; no scrubbing
Day 4–5 Light flaking possible Let flakes shed naturally
Day 6–7 Mostly settled Resume usual routine if advised
Aftercare

Aftercare do's and don'ts after microneedling

Good aftercare protects the open micro-channels while they close and helps the skin settle.

  • Do use a gentle cleanser and the moisturiser you are given
  • Do apply sunscreen daily and wear a hat outdoors
  • Do sleep on a clean pillowcase the first night
  • Don't wear makeup until your doctor says so, usually after 24 hours
  • Don't use retinoids, acids or scrubs for several days
  • Don't use saunas, swimming pools or hard exercise for 1–2 days

If you have planned laser or energy treatment too, our exosome skin regeneration page explains how sessions can be sequenced.

FAQ

Exosome Microneedling: your questions, answered

Reviewed by Dr. Ho-chan Kim, MD, PhD · Updated October 2026

Is exosome microneedling different from regular microneedling?

Yes. Regular microneedling relies on the skin's healing response alone. Exosome microneedling adds an exosome product applied through the micro-channels as a regenerative support. Ask your doctor which product is used and how it is applied.

How deep do the needles go?

Depth varies by area and concern. Thin skin around the eyes and forehead is treated very shallowly, while cheeks and scarred areas may be treated more deeply. The doctor sets and adjusts depth during the session.

Can exosome microneedling help acne scars?

It may help the appearance of mild, settled acne scars by supporting skin remodelling, usually over a series of sessions. Deep or active scarring may need other approaches. The doctor assesses your scar type before recommending a plan.

When can I go back to work after microneedling?

Many people return to office work the next day with some pinkness. If you prefer no visible signs, allow two to three days. Physical jobs in heat or dust may need a little longer.

How many microneedling sessions are recommended?

There is no fixed number. Texture and pore concerns are often treated in a series spaced some weeks apart, while a single session may suit a trip-based refresh. Your doctor recommends spacing based on your skin's response.
